Introvert Approved Holiday Gift Guide

In the spirit of giving, the holidays can bring about a whole sleigh full of anxiety for all personality types. Pressure to get the perfect gift, grabbing a great last minute gift for someone you forgot about. . . .but don’t want them to know you forgot about them!

If you’re reading this, either you are an introvert, and you want to see if these are indeed good gifts, before passing this list along to your fam or casually sharing on Facebook and hoping your Secret Santa takes notice. (If that’s the case, may the odds be ever in your favor!)

OR there’s an introvert in your life that you care about and want to get the perfect gift for. (Maybe a quiet cousin whom you’re sure never really likes their haul as much as they say, and you want to break the cycle of crappy gifts?) We’re here to help! Hopefully we can save you a few journeys into the mall and battling crowds for the last Tickle-Me-Whatever.

First you need to know that a lot of us have anxiety about opening gifts in front of people; no matter how much we like the gift, we’re not great at outwardly expressing emotion or showing the “right” amount of enthusiasm. Which of course, leads to guilt and more anxiety. #TheStruggleIsReal

Secondly, we can be particular AF, but we don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. Most Intros who also deal with anxiety, would rather not receive a gift at all just to skip the part where we look at your heartfelt gift, feel crestfallen that we don’t want it, and then dance around for 10 minutes trying to pretend otherwise, without actually lying and saying we like it. This is where ‘Aww you shouldn’t have’ really comes in handy.

Let’s skip all that and have a real gift exchange where everybody’s happy! In no particular order, here’s a quick top 10 out of the box gifts and gestures for the socially unique. Enjoy!

The images below are live links, you can shop right from this post! Some of them are affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you make a purchase through one of these links. It won’t cost you a thing, and these commissions help us keep the site up and running. Thanks for your support & happy shopping!

On to the shopping!

Giftcards.com has it all!

Gift Cards. Yes. Gift Cards.

Gift cards get a bad rap as being thoughtless or impersonal, but for the right recipient, the exact opposite is true. If you know your introvert, show it! Go outside the box with something specific and personal that reflects their hobbies like Blick, Daiso, or Ulta. This gift says I know you well, I care about you, and most importantly, I want you to be able to shop alone 🙂

Museum memberships

Does your Intro have a favourite museum? Or perhaps a museum they’ve always wanted go but has never been? Even better than a visit together, a membership usually doesn’t cost much more than two admissions, and makes an amazing gift! Members. get. perks. From free coat check, to private lounges, and best of all (TBH one of the best things maybe, in the world?) member previews of exhibits BEFORE they open to the public. It’s worth every penny.

Find museums near you!

Bags. Totes, Backpacks, Pencil Cases, Dealer’s Choice!

Sounds weird, but let’s be honest, Intros have a lot of stuff going on, mentally, and sometimes that manifests in actual stuff. A tote bag big enough for our latest read and a sweater, a makeup bag or pencil case with a that’s-so-me saying or design (Hellooo Pamela Barsky!), or even teeny tiny coin purse or pill case is an adorable gift if it suits your intro’s personality.

Hobby / Food + Drink or Tools + Supply Subscriptions

Guessing what supplies or tools someone may like based on a loose knowledge of their hobby is generally a bad idea. However, left to the pros to curate the best of the best and send a package every month? Genius! Services like ArtBox, Whiskey Explorers Club, Book of the Month Club etc not only give a year of gifts in one, but they allow the recipient to try new things with zero commitment. Which is just how we like things!

PureWow has a really comprehensive list of these to get you started!

We’re not obsessed with jetpens.com but… we’re not, NOT obsessed either.

Notebooks / Sketchbooks + Writing Implements

The swirling maelstrom inside your favourite introvert’s head demands pen and paper from time to time. A great notebook, or small notepad that can tuck into a backpack or purse, along with some fantastic quick drying gel pens is an amazing gift that comes with a sense of calm and order. So thank you in advance.

Media Streaming Subscriptions

Yes, at this point in the cord cutting game, everyone has one (or a few) of these services. So with that in mind, how greatly appreciated would the ONE they don’t have yet be?? And as an added bonus for you, there’s always an extra login to share! This is a gift that keeps on giving as you can then watch the same shows and compare notes, live text during the shows and keep that special closeness. . . . . from a distance, that Intros thrive on. #Hero

We’re partial to Hulu since there is a live TV option. Gotta stay up to date!

Headphones / Ear Buds / AirPods

Headphones. save. sanity. For all personality types. Whether it’s watching videos while commuting or listening to soothing ocean sounds for concentration, we all need headphones. Sure, everyone has some lying around, but a really nice pair is a fantastic gift, especially for anyone dealing with sensory anxiety or a processing disorder. (#Misophonia). If you really want to spoil someone this holiday season, give the gift of blocking out the rest of the world with some fancy noise cancelling dealies.

Weighted Blankets

Who doesn’t love a good squishy blanket? Blankets are warmth and comfort. That’s a great gift on its own, however, add a little weight to it and you’ve got anxiety medication that you don’t need a prescription for! These are popping up at stores everywhere in different weights and different sizes. If you’re not sure on this one, go with a small weighted throw to test the waters and let your recipient see how they feel about the weight.

Whatever crazy thing they asked for, get it in 2 days!

The Thing they said they wanted

Period. Point. No matter if it sounds weird to you, or isn’t something you would like as a gift, trust us and go with it. As a teen, every year DarkStar would ask for plain zip front hoodies, size large (translation: public transport invisibility cloak) and she’d get sweaters, in bright ‘fun’ colors. -_- Spoiler alert: they never got worn. Whatever your Intro is asking for, even if it seems lame to you, get it. Honestly feeling heard is the real gift here.

Nothing at all.

Yes, nothing is an option. See above. For some people “No Gifts” is something to say, and not really mean. But if you know your Intro well enough & they value experiences over things, get them nothing! Go out to dinner, have coffee together, do an escape room! Have an experience together AS your gift. Hop over to Etsy and find a super cute handmade card and extend an invite from the heart. A word of caution however: Work out a day and time together though, don’t commit your gift recipient’s time without thier input.

Most Etsy shop owners can make you something custom if you ask nicely!
